a 6-month long process from concept, design, commission & installation. filling it up seems to take the longest to complete. though we're still waiting for the custom-built step ladder to arrive from Germany and then its done.

Feature Swatch #2: Xmas by Xian Lax
Swatch
deluxeduck

for my second feature Swatch, i present
Xmas by Xian Lax

created by master couturier
Christian Lacroix for Christmas 1994, this limited edition Swatch watch was first presented at his Prêt-à-porter show in Paris. the watch's name "Xian Lax" is derived from the designer's name spelled phonetically.

the specially designed coffret takes the shape of a very ornate handbag made out of pink glittered translucent perspex and bearing the watch company logo with the designer's own signature and emblems:

the watch is encased in a garnet coloured translucent body with an elastic brass bracelet.

instead of hands, there is a golden sun disc that rotates around 24 multicoloured crystals:

the one black dot provides the only hint of time passing.

according to the haute couturier himself:

"To me, Time and Space are great luxuries, so I don't really like to quantify them. That is why I wanted to make of this watch something more than a mere counting machine; I wanted to make a jewel, an object of seduction, playing with the idea of hands - or lack thereof - contained within a kind of equally whimsical evening bag."

to me, the the most interesting feature of this watch is the flexible metal strap. it is composed of cast brass sections using the ancient
lost wax technique to achieve the highly ornate segments. the designer's own signature can be seen on one of the links:

this is one of Swatch's most popular and highly sought-after Christmas specials.

but of course... it's a Lacroix dahling, Lacroix!

Xmas by Xian Lax (GZ140), # 20,291/22,222 Christmas 1994.

thanks Renier. im always excited to read commments left in my blog. i do have a few other non-LV bags but i guess im really faithful to Vuitton (except for that one serious but brief fling with Balenciaga back in 2005). by the way, you have just given me an idea for my next entry!

the Soana Sacoche MM is truly a fantastic bag. i'd urge anyone who likes it to get hold of one if they can. although USD$3000 is way above retail, if you really want it and can afford it plus you have exhausted all other means and sources then why not? it is highly unlikely that there would be fakes around - they'll be VERY poor copies if ever - so the only issue is the condition and if the seller is reliable and won't just leave you empty-handed.

i have to admit that the Raymundos are more "me" than my other two pairs. but i do love and use them equally. the Millionaires are oversized and will definitely fit a wide and round face just like mine. if you can fit into a pair of Obsession carrés or even the Bindis (which i wont recommend guys buy), then you'll be fine with the Millionaires.

if you have any other questions don't hesitiate to contact me. im always happy to enble... ooops i mean help.

cheers!

hi duck. im a huge admirer and hope to inherit your estate one day. HAHA! its beautiful and tasteful.
but dont you have any goyard, prada, gucci (ive seen your balenciagas) any other designers?
id love to see!!

i have been wanting the soana sacoche bag that you have but in mocha for quite sometime now. I luckily ran into a guy that wanted to sell his. He started off at $5000 USD. I turned it down faster than lightning. He then offered a $3000 USD price tag. Im sure it was used very little as i noticed the handles were in tip top shape. Perhaps it also has to do with the leather? By being Kangaroo leather, im sure it maintains well. LIKE ALL LOUIS VUITTON BAGS.

ive also been dying for the raymundo glasses but they sell so fast here in miami, and the damn millionaires, well there are tons on ebay but im afraid of them not fitting well on my face. i have a VERY wide and round face. In pictures, and im more than willing to show you, or just go to my myspace, it may not look as if it were so, but it is. my current favorite and only sunglasses (that i use) are a pair of dior homme's from several collections ago. Ive been dying for an LV pair but the obsession glasses were too too girly. though they ARE BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLLLL! what should i do? should i buy a pair but previous to that ask the seller if he will allow me to have a "no questions asked policy for returns?"

PLease advise, oh yeah and FANTASTIC SUPERFRAGALISTICEXPIALADOCIOUS COLLECTION MATE!!!!!!

i am a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE fan, of your style and page though i have never commented.
take care!!

Wow.. Very impressive collection!
I found your blog through your livejournal (which I found through the louis_vuitton community). I've gotta say you are one lucky man. I wish my husband approved of LV. But then, we'd have to have a massive bank loan approved ;P
Ah well, I can live vicariously through your blog. :)

ok, i've been slack but i have a good excuse... i was a bit busy with "stuff". anyhoo... before i began seriously collecting ridiculousy priced leathergoods and related accessories, i was a full-time Swatch watch collector. yes, those plastic disposable watches with the funky crazy colours. this probably is my very first serious collection where in the interest and enthusiasm for Swatch watches took hold of me 24/7. although i've only began the collection 5 years ago, my love and appreciation for these watches have been around since gradeschool. everyone in school had one or two and the louder the colour clash the better - it was the 80's! i remember my first Swatch was the "Plaza" with a sky blue metallic guilloche dial and textured burgundy leather strap similar to Epi leather. i loved this watch so much, but like what most people do with these watches it was thrown away when it began to show wear. hence the name "Swatch" - which stands for second watch. the watch's disposable nature - it was, cheap, made of plastic and unrepairable - led to the worldwide collecting craze for these cheap watches which had its heyday in the early 90's when early models in mint condition commanded more than 100 times it's original retail price. the watch company is also known for inviting up-and-coming artists to design a watch which were produced in a very limited, mostly numbered, run. these Art Specials and those that celebrate or commemorate events and occasions like Christmas or the Olympics are the ones that are highly valued by collectors nowadays. not only for their limited number but also for the special packaging that have always been part and parcel (pun very much intended) of these particular Swatches. and people know that Swatch never does things in halves! on certain cases, the packaging outstages the watch itself. well i think i've talked about them enough for now. time for a visual....

i've concentrated my collection to mostly limited edition Art and Christmas specials. i shall feature my favourite pieces every once in a while. stay tuned!
