here are a few photos i took from last Saturday's inaugural 'Le Dîner en Blanc' in Canberra
- the third Australian city to hold this awesome worldwide event as part of the Enlighten festival
celebrating Canberra's 100th birthday
about 700 people participated in what some call a "pop-up/flash mob picnic' all dressed in white ...and nothing but.
the location - Peace Park
between between the National Library and Lake Burley Griffin - was only divulged just moments after participants have gathered in various rendezvous points around the city.
we were given 30 minutes to set the tables up, decorate and plate the food. this is our assigned row:
other requirements were to bring a three-course dinner, bring our own tables and chairs, linen, dinnerware and cutlery - no paper or plastic (with some exceptions). yes, it may seem too much effort, but totally worth it.
the all encompassing key word for the entire event: elegance
with a simultaneous waving of our cloth napkins, dinner commenced.
that day was my Mum's birthday and we decided to make a family outing of it.
one of the rare moments when it felt good to be judged - our table was selected as a finalist for best decoration =)
at the end of dinner, sparklers were lit to signal that the dance floor is open
everyone was in a jovial and community mood that night. i even witnessed my mum join a conga line!
a most awesome evening. i was so impressed with my fellow Canberrans for being such a stylish and fun set.
we look forward to next year's dinner!dinerenblanc.info enlightencanberra.com.au canberra100.com.au
